I am now 87 years old! I started painting about four years ago after my wonderful 2nd husband of 45 years passed away. Painting helped me with the emptiness & loneliness I was feeling. I took a class for cancer patients and cancer patient caregivers from an artist named Mary Sears. Mary is such wonderful person and terrific art teacher living in Zephyrhills. She inspired me to try painting and I found it was my salvation. I found peace, solace & healing and a new love.
I am now attending a weekly art class with a Professional Artist, Mary Henderson. So much for painting being something I would do “after I retire”.
I have won Blue Ribbons in Local, District, and State Art Competition. I’ve done pastels, acrylics, colored pencil and now into watercolor. I’ve done art using my own photos or using photos from National Geographic, etc.; whatever inspires me. I’m now offering Numbered Giclee Prints in different sizes, framed or unframed.
Nursing was my career, which was what I was going to do “when I grow up”. I Started college at 49 and received my Assoc. RN degree at 51. Later I received my BSN at Emory University in Atlanta at the age of 65. I loved Nursing and worked in that field until age 72.
I raised 7 amazing children & had, at times, my husband’s four wonderful children as well! He was a great help as I worked full time. My family, memories and my painting are now my loves and my therapy and I feel so grateful for all three!
